" In five years 500 000 print works of the 20th century, but still covered by rights, will be scanned by the BNF. They will then be offered for sale as eBooks. The Ministry of Culture and responds to the agreement signed in November between Google and Hachette Livre.
The agreement was unveiled this week. It combines the Ministry of Culture, the National Library of France (BNF), the National Union of publishing and the Society of Men of Letters. It provides scanning in five years, and the BNF, 500 000 of print books of the twentieth century - but still copyrighted. Funding for the
digitization project take place thanks to funding (750 million euros) as part of large loan. The digitized print books will be retained by the BNF. An electronic version, only a few pages and freely accessible by the Internet, will also be posted on its Gallica digital library. "(...)
